A loud whoosh when the gas lights, a blank display, a door too hot to touch or a self-clean cycle that shuts off halfway. Our local technicians repair gas and electric ovens and wall ovens in Flower Mound homes.
We repair gas ovens but do not install or move gas lines. That work is done by a plumber licensed by the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners.
Sheet OV-02 · Common problems
These are four oven problems we see often in Flower Mound kitchens, with the usual causes and one safe thing you can check before you call.
A soft whoosh is normal. A loud bang or a big puff of flame when the bake burner lights means too much gas collects before it ignites.
The glowing igniter has to get hot enough before the gas valve opens. A weak one takes too long, so gas builds up.
Blocked ports make the flame catch unevenly along the burner.
If the metal spreader under the oven floor is out of place, the flame rolls out instead of spreading.
If ignition is loud every time, stop using the oven and call us. Do not try to adjust the gas valve or the igniter yourself.
A blank display usually means the control board is getting no power or cannot use the power it gets.
Wall ovens often have their own breaker, and it can trip without anything else in the kitchen going dark.
A storm surge can damage the board or its power supply, so the display never lights.
The thermal fuse cuts power when the oven overheats, often during a long bake or a self-clean.
Check the breaker panel for the oven's breaker, switch it fully off and back on, and wait a minute for the display.
The outside of the door gets warm in use, but if it is too hot to touch, heat is escaping where it should not.
A flattened or torn gasket lets hot air leak around the door edges.
Many ovens run a fan behind the controls and door to carry heat away. When it stops, the door and the panel run hot.
The door has layers of glass and insulation. A cracked pane or shifted insulation lets heat through.
Look at the gasket around the oven opening for flat spots or gaps, and listen for the cooling fan after you bake.
Self-clean heats the oven to around 800°F, so weak parts often give out during that cycle.
The fuse protects the oven from overheating and can trip during the high heat of self-clean.
If the control cannot confirm the door is locked, it stops the cycle for safety.
A sensor that misreads at high heat makes the control think the oven is too hot and shut down.
Let the oven cool fully and check the breaker. Wipe out loose debris before a self-clean so less smoke and heat build up.
If you smell gas near the oven, do not switch anything on or off. Get everyone outside, call 911 or your gas company from outside, and call us after the leak is handled. Gas line work is done by a plumber licensed by the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners.
