Sheet WS-02 · Common problems
These are four washer problems we see often in Flower Mound laundry rooms, with the usual causes and one safe thing you can check before you call.
If the load comes out dripping, the washer either could not drain fully or never reached full spin speed.
Coins, hair ties and lint collect in the pump filter. The washer drains slowly and skips the high spin to protect the pump.
A single heavy item like a bath mat throws the drum off balance, so the washer slows the spin to avoid damage.
On belt-driven models a worn belt slips under load, so the drum never gets up to speed.
Run a Drain and Spin cycle with a mixed, medium load. On a front-loader, put a towel down, open the small filter door at the bottom front and clear the filter.
Most modern washers adjust cycle time as they go, so a cycle that runs far past the display time means the machine keeps waiting for something.
Sediment builds up in the small screens where the hoses connect, so the tub fills slowly and the timer waits.
If the pressure switch misreads the water level, the washer keeps adding water or keeps pausing to check.
The washer tries again and again to balance the load before it will spin, adding minutes each time.
Make sure both water valves behind the washer are fully open and the hoses are not kinked. Try a smaller, mixed load.
A washer that trips the outlet or the breaker has a fault to ground somewhere. Do not keep resetting it.
A slow leak can drip onto wiring or the motor connector and cause a short to the cabinet.
Front-loaders with a built-in water heater can short when the heater element cracks.
A cord pinched behind the machine or a scorched plug can trip the circuit as soon as the washer starts.
Unplug the washer and look at the cord and plug for damage or scorch marks. If it trips again, leave it unplugged and call us.
A dark or frozen panel is often a setting or a power problem, but it can also mean the controls themselves have failed.
Child lock or control lock is easy to switch on by accident, and the washer then ignores every button but the lock.
Buttons used every day wear out, and moisture can get under a touch panel.
A storm surge can damage the main board, so the panel stays dark or freezes on one screen.
Look for a lock icon and hold the lock button for 3 seconds (your manual shows which one). Then unplug the washer for 5 minutes and plug it back in.
